Installation Instructions

Downloading the Software

Click on DYNDEMO.EXE to download the file. This is a self extracting file that should be saved in a temporary directory (say ARCTEMP).

Program Setup

    For Windows 3.1:
  • Choose Run from the File menu of the Windows Program Manager, type ARCTEMP\DYNDEMO.EXE and choose OK. Use the full path name for ARCTEMP.
  • Choose Run from the File menu of the Windows Program Manager, type ARCTEMP\SETUP.EXE and choose OK. Use the full path name for ARCTEMP.
    For Windows '95:
  • Choose Run from the Start button on the Task bar, type ARCTEMP\DYNDEMO.EXE and choose OK. Use the full path name for ARCTEMP.
  • Close the window with the list of extracted file.
  • Choose Run from the Start button on the Task bar, type ARCTEMP\SETUP.EXE and choose OK. Use the full path name for ARCTEMP.

Once the installation is complete, you can delete the files in the ARCTEMP directory.

Uninstalling the Program

To uninstall the program, delete all the files in the installation directory and remove the ARC Programs group as follows:
For Windows 3.1:
Delete the ARC Programs icon in the Windows Program Manager.
For Windows '95:
Select Settings->Task Bar from the Start button on the Task bar, click on the Start Menu Programs tab, and click the Remove button. Select the ARC Programs folder and click Remove.

Running the Demo Version

You can start the program by clicking on the DYNAMIC DEMO icon in the ARC Program group (for Windows '95 use Start->Programs->ARC Programs->DYNAMIC DEMO). The program will automatically load data for a prebake, PBF pot.

The on-line help is available any time while running ARC/DYNAMIC by selecting Help->Index, pressing F1 or pressing the Context Help button from the toolbar (the last button on the tool bar) and selecting a menu option.

You may want to read through the Step by Step Instructions to get an overview of how to use the program. Choose Help->Index to load the on-line help system and click on Step by Step Instructions.

Please note that not all program features are activated in the demo version.

Limitations of the Demo Version

The demo version of the program comes pre-configured with two sample models: one represents a prebake PBF cell and the other a Söderberg side break cell. The models can be selected from the File menu.

The demo version includes all the capabilities of the full production version except for the following:

  • The File->Open option is limited to the two pre-defined models described above.
  • The File->Save and File->Save As options are disabled.
  • The cell characteristics defined using the Attributes->Geometry, Attributes->Materials and Attributes->Operations menus cannot be changed.
  • Creating User Equations is disabled.
  • The maximum number of time steps in the transient solution is limited to 1000. However, the duration of the time step can be changed.
